DID SATURDAY NIGHT LIVE GO TO FAR

The governor paterson skit was criticized by governor paterson and advocates for the blind.Paterson told reporters he can take a joke but he called the snl skit a third grade depiction of people and the way they look that could lead others to believe that disability goes hand in hand with an inability to run a goverment or business.I run the place i work in so i dont have to worry about being discriminated against paterson noted. The national federation for the blind considers the snl skit a attack on all blind americans.they also say he looks like hes disoriented and befuddled because of his blindness.I dont agree snl makes fun of everyone people with mental illness, retarded people deaf people hes portrayed befuddled because of past behavior by him

WINNING CURES EVERYTHING

Dallas beat the giants sunday 20 to 8 it was a great defensive game for both teams both quarterbacks were roughed up.The real fireworks were after the game with terrell owens interview.Terrell called the teams inner conflict a fabrication of the media. He said honestly i dont know where any of that stuff came from. When told Ed Werder first broke the story.Terrell told the media it was a lack of professionalism by werder. He also called him a dirty filthy liar.He was also asked about the fans booing him he said ask Ed werder.Wade philips jokingly added i think they kissed and made up.The cowboys control their own fate getting in the playoffs.

BOYS CANT AFFORD TOYS

Up at keuka lake people didnt see many boats or jetskis people having a lot of fun in the water.People couldnt afford it with gas prices so high this summer.People couldnt even drive up to the lake.I wonder if the holiday season will be bad this year for stores.Maybe people wont be able to afford a big christmas for their kids or even any christmas.Maybe stores will have to let go holiday help early and even let people go who worked places a long time.I know christmas has become very materialistic and the meaning has been lost.Maybe the bad economy will bring us back to the true meaning of christmas.

WEGMANS VS WALMART

I have worked as a cashier at both walmart and wegmans they have two different philosophies on training people.Walmart has a long orientation teaching you the job with computer based learning. You have to complete a certain number of computer courses before you start your job. Then they throw you right on the register and you have a person bagging for you for 3 days. Then you are expected to do the job.Wegmans has a orientation day then as a group you are trained on the cash register. They go over a training book and we practice with each other taking each other as customers. Then after a week we take real customers but we have a sign on our registers telling we are trainees.I like wegmans way a lot better.

MCCAIN REPORT CARD

Mccain wants to make across the board cuts in programs except in veteran programs and a few other vital programs.According to veteran report card groups Mccain gets a D on his support of veteran programs.Obama received a B. Mccain is disabled in a way from war injuries. This was suggested by a person who commented on my post.True there is a lot of fraud in these programs people want money for nothing and put the burden on other people.Mccain has a lot of money and can afford the best medical programs.A person like me taking a lot of medicines feels a pinch on his pocket. At walmart i have to fill out a accommadation packet and have dr note to affirm the diagnosis.

INTERVIEW AT WALMART

Walmarts interview process is stricter than most.Three people from management interview you and take notes about you.The questions asked arent the normal questions like tell us about yourself or where do you wanna be in 10 years. The questions are prewritten they ask about naming different times in the past about work experiences example tell me a time you helped a customer without being asked. After the first interview the management goes in a room and talks about you getting the job. Then if you get past the first interview more form questions about previous work experience. These questions are more about safety and rules. Then they extend you a job offer and ask if you will submit to a drug test and background check. The drug test is very strict once you are at the place you cant leave the place until you do the test. You get to drink no more than 2 bottles of water all the water is turned off in the bathroom and you have to empty your pockets before the test.

People who want to get married cant find a mate and people who dont want to be married cant get out of their marriages

A parent would kill their children

When we get old we revert back to childhood

Boys will be boys

When a guy has sex hes a stud when a girl has sex shes a slut

Girls like tall guys

A woman would sell her virginity on the internet

I wonder a lot of other things like why isnt life fair if their is a god i guess we can just hope for the best because we cant change the past we dont know the future

OVERCOMING THE STIGMA OF MENTAL ILLNESS

Stigma begins by labeling someone.Stigma by definition is a mark of disgrace and shame.Stigma has 4 components:

-Labeling someone with a condition

-stereotyping people with that condition

-Creating a superior us group and a devalued them group resulting in loss of status in the community

-Discriminating against someone on the basis of their labor

A diagnosis is a label a label can offer reassurance that your condition has a medical cause and can steer you towards treatment labels arent all negative and dont all result in a stigma many illnesses today are gaining acceptance and empathy, like breast cancer today people talk about it and hold benefits for survivors advocates wear wrist bands and ribbons.People with breast cancer would never be ridiculed by people with mental illness still face ridicule.

Why does stigma of mental illness continue?
mental illness suggests its not a medical or physical illnessTo some mental refers to a problem caused by your own choices and actions.People may blame you and think its all in your head.People may think people with mental illness are weak or lazy they should just get over it.

In reality mental illness has very complex causes a mix of genetics, biology and life experiences, most of them are beyond your control.

Some mental health conditions have more stigma attached then others like schizophrenia has more stigma compared to depression.

Harmful effects of stigma

-pretending nothing is wrong

-refusing treatment

-rejection by family and friends

-difficulty finding housing or a job

Coping with stigma

-get treatment

-surround yourself with supportive people

-dont equate yourself with your illness

-share your own experience

-monitor the media

join a advocacy group

GENERALIZED ANXIETY DISORDER (G.A.D.)

Is an anxiety disorder characterized by excessive uncontrollable and often irrational worry, about everyday things which is disproportionate to the source of worry. The excess worry interferes with daily living like thinking the worst is gonna happen in health matters, money or familymatters.People with G.A.D.exhibit a variety of physical symptons like:fatigue, headache, nausea, muscle tension, difficult swallowing, trembling, insomnia, sweating, hot flashes. These symptons must be persistant for at least 6 months for a diagnosis.About 6.8 million american adults experience G.A.D.It affects twice as much women as men.About 2.8% of the adult population 18-54.

Some research shows G.A.D. may run in families and usually start at earlier age.Symptons may manifest slower than other anxiety disorders.

treatment may include antianxiety meds or/and antidepressants.

Behavioral therapy relaxation techniques

cognitive therapy teaches patients to react differently to the situations and bodily sensations that trigger anxiety symptoms.

GRADING THE STATES

In 2006 nami (national alliance on mental illness)GRADING THE STATES:A REPORT ON AMERICAS MENTAL HEALTHCARE SYSTEM FOR SERIOUS MENTAL ILLNESSES provided the first assessment in 15 years of publicly funded mental health services. The national average was a D.

New york was 1 of only 2 states that declined to respond to the survey.New york received the grade u for unresponsive.

In new york city and other urban centers the need for services far exceeds the supply.Contributing to criminal activity and homelessness. There are more people in rikers island than any psyciatric hospital in the country.

Ny spends 103.32 on each person for mental health spending.Ranking among the highest in the country.

Advocates agree ny has two many state hospitals 26.Decades of downsizing has created an anamaly there are two many hospitals and two few beds. There are only 4000 beds

Ny is one of a minority of states that still does not require mental health parity insurance.Timothys law a parity bill nearly passed in 2005 but stalled in the state senate.

On the positive side omh has developed a joint agreement with new york city to develop supportive housing. The plan will increase housing for 5,500 people with mental illness. These will be added to 31,000 already available.

Suicide numbers have been high in recent years so omh is investing in awareness, education and prevention.

per capita mental health spending 192.07 3rd in nation

per capita income 34,725 6th in nation

total mental health spending in millions 3,681 2nd in nation

suicide rank 49

HOW TO EXPLAIN EMPLOYMENT GAPS

Whats the best way to explain an employment gap?It depends on the situation and what you did when you werent employed.
When listing dates on your resume you dont need to list the month/year if you were in the position for over a year or if your position spans multiple years. For example you could say 2000-2004(rather than june 2000-july2004)this gives you some room to cover the gaps.
Start your resume with a summary statement and career highlights section so you are highlighting your skills and accomplishments rather when you did what.
Did you volunteer or freelance when you werent employed. These experiences count as work and can be used on your resume.List them as you would other jobs.
Whats most important is to tell the truth. If you lie it will probably come back to haunt you.Employers verify work historyHonesty is the best policy good luck!!!

your rights as an employee with a disability

The americans with disabilities act requires employers to treat workers with disabilities equal in every part of employment.People with disabilities cannot be discriminated against because of their disability.

2)Employers cannot ask any question on the application that would give them information about your disability.example they couldnt ask would you need accommodations to do this job.

3)You can tell them if you want about your disability but they cant ask

4)Once you are offered the job you can ask about special accommodations you need on your job.Your employer can ask you for a letter from your dr confirming you need accommodations.

understanding emotional eating

Emotional eating is eating to fill psychological needs. When you experience this type of an urge to eat you might be aware that you dont really feel hungry you just feel like eating. At times you may have a craving for a treat food.Even more puzzling are the times you feel hungry even when you have just eaten a lot. From early on we have all been given food for many reasons besides hunger.; to express love or approval,to show hospitality,or to help us cope with negative experiences.Eating gets associated with feeling better. Now when you feel bad you may also feel hungry this may cause several problems
-it is hard for you to get a satisfaction from food you often want more than regular amounts

-you may only feel satisfied when you feel stuffed

-even when you get satisfied you feel hungry usually soon compared to others

starting over with vesid

When you are part of supported employment (capabilities) and you are fired or quit a job you and your job coach have 12 weeks to find another job or they close your case. When your case is closed you start the whole process over again. You have to go to vesid and fill out paper work and get an intake interview.Vesid has 90 days to decide to open your case or not.If you are open then you have another intake appointment and decide if you want to work or get training or school. If you choose work you go to capabilities and do another intake with a lot of paper work and develop your work plan jobs youd like and not like and your working goals. Then you go to meet your employment specialist and go over your work plan and goals and you get started on finding a job. I was fired feb 8 and had my first appointment with my job coach aug 10 the process takes about 6 months but it is worth it. http://www.vesid.nysed.gov this is a link to vesid

Supported employment is a wonderful program. It is part of capabilities. The program gives support to disabled people who want to work. They supply many services they give pre work classes on many topics to empower you to be successful in the work place. They make you resumes and post them on line they help you with the applications with interview skills they do mock interviews. They will be with you on the job until your comfortable. They play as active a role in your job as you want. They help set life goals besides employment and always call you back when you call. They will even meet with you after their hours if your on the night shift.I love the program the people are nice and friendly and act as friends. They arent condesending to they give individual attention even tho they have big case loads.I would recommend the program to anyone.

wegmans

I worked for wegmans food mart for 8 years.I started pushing carts for them i did that for 3 years. Then i did maintenance and pushed carts. Then i was awarded a position inside in the grocery department.I participated in wegmans charity work money was deducted from my pay for the united way.Now i work with a program called supported emloyment through capabilities.I had an employment specialist or job coach who helps a lot. These people come to the job or offsite if you want and talk to you about problems you have at work. They help you solve the problems and talk to your boss about the problems and your progress on the job.You have to be refered to them through vesid vocational education for the disabled another great program.I dont have a perfect record at wegmans i admit ive had problems. My job coach has had meetings with my superiors.I have been suspended but i dont feel wegmans is sympathetic to my anxiety problems.I have ocd and anxiety.I developed diabetes a few months before i was fired and this caused foot problems i had to sit down sometimes because of my feet. The day i was fired i was called into the employee reps office and told i had my last chance and need to be let go.I was told to sign papers i was very nervous i couldnt think what to say.Every other time i did something that i had problems my job coach was called before i knew and we all had a meeting. This time my job coach wasnt informed i was just told to sign these papers look them over and sign. Then i clocked out and i went directly to my job coach he was shocked. He went over and talked to them but they didnt want to hear it.This happened feb 11 since them ive been working with a new therapist and psychiatrist my diabetes is under control i work out and the foot dr gave me corrective shoes that help a lot.Id like to work again to take pride in myself instead of drawing ssd but there are no jobs
